In 2019 Madagascar participated in the 58th International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia with its own pavillon for the first time in its history. Though several Western countries have been attended it for more than a century, it is only for the last ten years that some African pavilions showed up, namely, South Africa or Ivory Coast.

Joël Andrianomearisoa was chosen to represent his country accompanied by curators Rina Ralay Ranaivo and Emmanuel Daydé, due to the invention and the maturity of his work, his international reputation as well as the unconditional support of his professional network.
